I noticed that many beads have some light lines in the glass on the outsides of some of the petals. I used a magnifying glass and I couldn't tell whether the lines were ripples in the satiny glass, or fissures, or straw lines (thin indentations in the surface from the glass folding or separating while it is hot). I ruled out straw lines, and I couldn't see any actual fissures, so I think they are ripples in the glass. They aren't very noticeable, and I didn't decrease the price any. |

The color of these beads is fascinating. I stared at the beads for a long time and couldn't put a name on the color, and I finally used "seafoam", which is what the supplier calls them. You would think I know a lot about the manufacturing of beads, but I don't. But one thing I've figured out is this: When a manufacturer is making opaque beads, they first introduce clear glass into the mold (which is more viscous than opaque glass), and then they put in the opaque glass. If they put a little color in the clear glass, it creates an interesting effect -- and that's what they've done this time. These beads are opaque light aqua-green with a very thin layer of light fuchsia on the surface, which gives the green glass a dusky or grayish appearance. It is very interesting. This is one of those instances in which the beads are nicer than the picture shows. They are glossy and satiny, and that doesn't show well in the picture. |
