Comments:

First, please note that the hole is not sideways, and that means you'll probably have to use a jump ring to make the face of the bead show.  Regarding the photo, it is important to remember that the photo is an enlargement.  10mm may sound sizable, but the beads are really fairly small, and the mottled pattern that is so clear in the picture is really quite fine and hard to see with the naked eye.
