My camera doesn't reproduce reds well, and I would say that the actual beads are a bit more towards the violet spectrum than the picture indicates, although not by much.  I have seen ruby red beads which had more of a violet quality than these beads do.

The beads appear very dark in artificial light (at night).  It takes daylight to make them look as light as they are in the picture.
