The coating on these beads is synthetic.
It may or may not be fire-polished onto the beads. Even if it is, fire-polished synthetic coatings can be
scraped off with a hard fingernail. However, synthetic coatings are softer than glass, so the beads may be
resistant to chipping (this is just a guess). The truth is, I don't know how durable they will be. An
occasional bead may have an anomaly in the coating (such as a pock mark), and an occasional bead may have lost
some of the coating around the hole. That will expose the black bead underneath; but since you will be
stringing another bead up against the hole, it shouldn't show. |
