About Window Beads

Because window beads are so expansive, I examine each bead before shipping and eliminate the beads with the most serious defectives (or I include them as freebies).  Here is a list of defects and how I handle them:

Defect

What I do with the defective beads

cracks:

Discarded before shipping

unpolished windows:

Included in your order as freebies

partially polished windows:

Included in your order as freebies

windows polished at an angle, making the bead look lopsided:

Mildly lopsided beads:  Included as acceptable (i.e., you pay for the beads)
Severely lopsided beads:
Included in your order as freebies

Note:  This defect is more common in oval beads than rectangular beads, so you can expect to get more lopsided beads if you buy ovals.

beads with malformations, such as blunt corners:

Included in your order as freebies

pits on the window surface:

Small pits:  Included as acceptable (i.e., you pay for the beads)
Large pits:
Included in your order as freebies

scratches:

Short, shallow scratches:  Included as acceptable (i.e., you pay for the bead)
Long or deep scratches:  Included in your order as freebies

other surface defects on polished surfaces: Sometimes the windows are polished on two angles (not counted as a defect) or have depressions or shallow "troughs" between two adjacent colors (not counted as a defect unless the depression is wide or deep).  I judge these defects individually.

spots of picasso coating on the windows:

Small, even spots:  Included as acceptable (i.e., you pay for the bead)
Large or uneven spots:
Included in your order as freebies

windows that have coating overlapping the edges: Included in your order as acceptable (i.e., you pay for the bead).  (Explanation:  Some beads have the picasso coating added after the windows are polished, and the coating can overlap the edges of the windows)
picasso coating in the holes, making the holes look black: Included as acceptable (i.e., you pay for the beads)
uneven swirls of color in the glass: Included as acceptable (i.e., you pay for the beads)
small or large windows: Because the beads are individually polished, the size of the windows may vary slightly from one bead to the next.  I don't consider that to be a defect.
thin or thick beads: Because the beads are individually polished, the beads may vary in thickness.  I don't consider varying thickness of the beads to be a defect.

If you order, say, 50 of a particular bead and you get 50+5, that means that I examined the beads and found 5 defective beads and included them as freebies.  If you examine the beads, you should find 50 beads in usable shape.  If you feel that I have overlooked any serious defects, please contact me.
